Mulberry Fields homeowners lend a hand (and a trowel) in Pageant Gardens
Last week, two of our brilliant homeowners from Mulberry Fields in Sherborne — Diane, head of the gardening club, and her green-fingered neighbour Jill — joined forces with local volunteers for a community planting day in the heart of town.
As part of the much-loved Sherborne in Bloom initiative, the group met in Pageant Gardens, one of Sherborne’s best-loved public spaces, to help bring fresh life and colour to four large flowerbeds.
Together, the nine-strong team gave up their morning to weed, dig, clear and plant over 600 begonias and salvias, creating a beautiful display that will brighten the park in the weeks ahead.
“It was hard work,” said Diane, “but completely worth it. Everyone mucked in, and we can’t wait to see the gardens come to life!”

What is Sherborne in Bloom?
Sherborne in Bloom is a volunteer-run initiative organised by Sherborne Town Council in partnership with The Gardens Group. It celebrates all things green and beautiful in the town — from public planting schemes like this one, to workshops, competitions and shared community events.
The goal is simple: to make Sherborne even more vibrant and welcoming, through gardening and shared creativity.
Events include:
- The Summer Front Garden Competition, with eight fun categories including Best Fairy Garden, Biggest Sunflower, and Best Pollinator Planting
- Open meetings and workshops, where residents can connect, share tips, and learn from experts
- Volunteer planting days, like this one, where neighbours come together to improve shared spaces
“I think a town project like Sherborne in Bloom brings the community together,” said Diane.
“It’s a nice thing to do as a group. And it makes a visual impact for people looking around and enjoying these gardens.”
A Community That Grows Together
At Platinum Skies, we believe that life in later years should be vibrant, purposeful, and connected. What better example than two of our own residents getting stuck in and giving back to the town they call home?
Diane and Jill are both active members of the Mulberry Fields community, and we couldn’t be prouder to see them playing such a visible role in this town-wide project.
We know that for many of our homeowners, moving to a Platinum Skies community like Mulberry Fields isn’t about slowing down — it’s about having the time, energy and support to grow, give back, and do what brings joy.
“We’re proud to call Sherborne home,” said Diane. “And we want to help it bloom.”
