In a heartwarming initiative, Chapters, an independent-living community for those over 55, situated off Wilton Road in Salisbury, has unveiled a new event aimed at bringing ex-servicemen and women together.
The Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club, held every third Wednesday morning of the month, offers a unique opportunity for homeowners to forge new friendships while sharing their remarkable stories and experiences over a hearty breakfast and delicious cups of coffee.
Affiliation with Salisbury AFVCB
During the inaugural meeting, Andy Heath, a member of the Salisbury and Amesbury Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club (Salisbury AFVCB), joined our Chapters homeowners to shed light on their organisation's mission. Following Andy's insightful talk, the Chapters Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club has now become officially affiliated with the AFVCB, extending an open invitation for their members to join the event each month.
Diverse Stories, Lasting Bonds
Peter Daykin, a REME veteran from 1946 to 1986 and a Chapters homeowner, shared his experience of the first club gathering. He recounted, "At the first breakfast club meeting, we had about a dozen veterans come along. It was great because we had a real mix of ex-army, Navy, and RAF with different people having served in different places, so we could talk about that. I always said that if I met someone who served longer than me, I would buy them a bottle of whisky, but I’ve not found anybody yet."
Support and Companionship
Chapters has two dedicated Community Managers who not only organise engaging activities, but also provide essential day-to-day support to the community's homeowners. Jenny Abbott, one of the Community Managers, expressed, “We realised that we have many veterans across our community who would benefit from the companionship of making friends with other ex-servicemen and women. It’s lovely to see them laughing and chatting together as they share stories."
A Community Designed for Connection
As well as the Veterans Breakfast Club, Chapters offers a range of communal facilities including a homeowners’ lounge, a dedicated activity room, a treatment room, and a guest suite. Homeowners also relish the exclusive terraced area outside the bistro, where they come together for barbecues and afternoon tea events.
A Glimpse into the Future
In addition to the existing offerings, Chapters is nearing completion of the restoration of the historic Finch House, set to be transformed into 21 bespoke retirement apartments. Finch House homeowners will enjoy access to the wider Chapters facilities, as well as their own private courtyard and rose garden area.
The Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club at Chapters stands as a testament to the power of community, connection, and shared experiences. Through this heartwarming initiative, veterans are finding not only camaraderie but also a place where their stories are heard, appreciated, and celebrated.
Chapters continues to be a beacon of support and companionship, enriching the lives of those who have dedicated their service to our country.
