Our homeowners at Quantock House in Taunton have just celebrated the anniversary of the first person moving into their over 55s community.
Party to celebrate
The Mayor of Taunton, Cllr Sue Lees, joined our homeowners at the independent-living community in Paul Street for a special tea party to mark the first year.
Tea, coffee and a host of cakes were served up for our homeowners to enjoy at the special celebration. The event enabled them to socialise together and share stories about what brought them to Quantock House and the difference that it has made to their lives since they moved.
Living at Quantock House in Taunton
Ian Mackenzie, 77, was the first person to move into Quantock House, having wanted to downsize from the four-bedroom family home which became too large to maintain by himself. He was keen to move closer to his son and daughter, who live near Taunton, and wanted to meet like-minded people who he could socialise with and enjoy activities.
Since moving to Quantock House, Ian has helped to set up a weekly breakfast club, which sees a group of homeowners visit a different café or restaurant each Sunday to chat over a meal together. He’s also helped to create a walking group with his fellow homeowners, which sees them set off from Quantock House each week and take a different route to explore the beauty of the local Somerset area.
Speaking about why he chose the Platinum Skies community as home for the next phase of his life, Ian said: “Quantock House is in the middle of Taunton so it has all the services that I need, including being close to the shops, local park, theatre, and cricket ground. It is an ideal place to live and suits exactly what I was looking for.
He added: “There’s seven floors and you can more-or-less pick your own view. The apartments are completely fitted out with all the latest appliances, and it doesn’t need any maintenance like my old house did.
"I enjoy the activities that Platinum Skies organise, and I’m a very sociable person, so I enjoy just going down to the bistro and bar that we have so that I can meet up with the other homeowners. My children are also extremely happy that I’m here.”
