Mayoress Unveils New Photography at Monterey

monterey photographic competition

We were delighted to welcome theMayoress of Christchurch, Mrs Gillian Geary, to Monterey for the unveiling of the winners of our ‘Hidden Gems of Christchurch & East Dorset’ photographic competition, ran in partnership with Highcliffe & Infinity Photographic Club.

Showcasing the winning photographs for the first time in their new home, both residents and the club’s photographers came to see the new artwork in situ, whilst a temporary exhibition of all entries filled the entrance hall.

Mayoress of Christchurch, Mrs Gillian Geary, herself an esteemed artist and judge for the competition, awarded the four winners with vouchers to our local camera shop. Other judges included local professional photographer Matthew Pinner and editor of Dorset Magazine, Helen Stiles.

Suzanne Wright, Head of Sales and Marketing at Platinum Skies completed the panel:

“The standard of entrants was astonishing, and picking the winners was a challenging process. Ultimately, we made our decision based on the photographs we felt best portrayed the unique features of Christchurch and East Dorset. However, the level of entries were of such a high calibre that we decided to hold a temporary exhibition of all the entrants.”

The photographers were tasked with capturing the ‘hidden gems’ of Christchurch and East Dorset. Winning shots ranged from the meandering bends of the River Avon at sunset, to the seventh century Priory in the heart of Christchurch.

“It was a delight to be involved in this unique project with Platinum Skies, and have the opportunity to bring elements of Christchurch & East Dorset that we love into Monterey. With a seemingly boundless level of natural beauty in the area, we were spoiled for choice in deciding what to photograph and submit.”

Monterey is just a short bus journey from the pretty side streets and listed buildings of Christchurch, whilst the world famous New Forest can be reached in under 15 minutes by car.
