Lynsey Williams has taken up the new post which involves providing practical and emotional support to the over-55s community at the top of Horsecastles Road and the A30, which is less than a mile away from Sherborne town centre. Our Community Managers also organise events for the homeowners to attend which could include wine and gin tasting workshops, coach day trips, cocktail and mocktail evenings, afternoon tea, barbecues, bridge and chess clubs, and many more.

Lynsey brings a wealth of experience to the team, having worked for a helpline that supports older and vulnerable people, and has previously overseen the care of residents in a number of local housing providers. In her spare time, she enjoys walking her three Labradors called Poppy, Merlin, and Loki.

Lynsey said: “I am really looking forward to helping the homeowners to get their community started and being part of the process to enable them to live healthier, happier and more fulfilled lives. Being able to work in the Sherborne community from the early stages is a fantastic opportunity which will enable me to get to know each homeowner personally so that I can learn how to best support them.”

She added: “Sherborne is a lovely, bustling market town and I love to spend time there. It is a very special place to me as I met my husband there at a wedding that we both attended, which was held in Sherborne Abbey with the reception in Sherborne Castle.”

A new retirement community in Sherborne

The Sherborne community features a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, townhouses, semi-detached and detached houses. Each home features larger-than-average rooms with large windows to allow the natural light to flood in, fully-fitted kitchens with energy-saving appliances, bathrooms with step-free showers, and onsite parking which aims to benefit the homeowners’ current and future needs. The houses also feature gardens with a patio area to enable the homeowners to enjoy the outdoor space, meanwhile the apartments feature a communal courtyard to enjoy.

It will play host to an open week from Monday 5 July to Sunday 11 July which will give visitors the opportunity to learn more about what the new community has to offer. Places must be booked in advance as part of enhanced Covid-safe measures for the benefit of the visitors, homeowners, and the team.

The first homeowner moved into their new home in Sherborne last month following the completion of the first phase of houses in Canon Woods Close. The apartment complex, named Mulberry Lodge, which is due to be completed in October, will play host to a range of communal facilities including a homeowners’ lounge, bistro with a bar area, treatment room, and activity room.
