Platinum Skies communities proud to support Loneliness Awareness Week

Our team is hosting a range of events this week for its homeowners in recognition of Loneliness Awareness Week.

Events to support Loneliness Awareness

Homeowners at the Dorset and Wiltshire over-55s independent-living communities have organised events supporting Loneliness Awareness Week which runs from Monday 14 to Friday 18 June. Some of the activities that we have got planned will include a wine tasting afternoon at Vista in Parkstone, a board games, cards and pool afternoon, as well as twice-daily coffee mornings in Esprit in Poole town centre, and a men’s happy hour with darts, and a film afternoon at Chapters in Salisbury.

Laura Warwick, Director of Lifestyle, Wellbeing, and Entertainment, said: “We are proud to support Loneliness Awareness Week which encourages people to talk to a friend or relative if they are feeling lonely. Some of our homeowners were previously living in rural, isolated locations so they can relate to those who don’t currently benefit from the lifestyle that a Platinum Skies property offers. They’ve moved to our communities to make new friends, participate in our activities as much or as little as they want, and often find a sense of purpose in this next chapter of their lives.”

What is Loneliness Awareness Week?

Loneliness Awareness Week is a UK-wide initiative organised by Marmalade Trust. The charity promotes the fact that people of all ages can feel lonely at times as it is a natural human emotion, and that humans are biologically wired to seek social contact, with loneliness acting as a signal that we need more.

Amy Perrin, the founder of Marmalade Trust, said: “We’re so grateful that Platinum Skies are getting involved with the fifth Loneliness Awareness Week, where the theme is, We Get Lonely, encouraging understanding and acceptance of loneliness. Loneliness Awareness Week was created to reduce the stigma surrounding loneliness and support us to build a society where people freely acknowledge that loneliness can exist, and actively support those experiencing it to increase their social contact and make new friendships.”

How does Platinum Skies help to tackle loneliness?

Each community has a dedicated onsite Community Manager who supports the homeowners through practical and emotional support while boosting their wellbeing through organised events. The apartments, houses, and cottages are designed with accessibility in mind, including bathrooms with step-free showers, easy-to-use kitchens with energy-saving appliances, and underfloor heating.

We are hosting an open week in Poole and Salisbury from Monday 28 June to Sunday 4 July, and in Sherborne and Taunton from Monday 5 July to Sunday 11 July. During the events, the public can view and reserve a choice of shared-ownership homes, while the Sherborne and Taunton apartments are available to reserve off-plan. All available properties are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and places must be booked in advance as part of enhanced Covid-safe measures for visitors and our team.

Prices for a home within our communities start from £105,000 based on the buyer paying 50% of the property’s full market value.  The homes are made affordable as part of a government-backed shared ownership scheme delivered in partnership with Homes England.
